This was another quick and easy repair on a Samsung TV with faulty capacitors on the power supply board. Here are a couple of symptoms to help identify failed capacitors:
- pink dot/start up problems
- slow start up
- after start up the picture starts to disappear
- flickering of the TV screen
- clicking noise
- sound/power LED is on but there is no picture
The repair process is fairly straight forward, unplug the TV, lay the TV face down a flat surface, remove the back so you can access the electronic boards, remove the power supply board, replace bad/all capacitors.
You can visually inspect and see bad capacitors.. they usually are bulging at the top or leaking.
After removing the back of the TV, I like to take pictures to be able to reference the wire connectivity but in this case its pretty straight forward. There weren’t that many connections on this unit and usually the plugs only connect/fit on certain plugs.
The power supply is encased in a vented grill on this TV.
From the below image, can you spot the bad capacitors?
In this case, I just went ahead and replaced all the capacitors. After the replacement, I put the TV back together and fired it up.. it worked great!!
Feel free to buy me a beer if this was helpful…
